The Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), is an accredited, public and co-educational research university located in the Islamabad Capital Territory, near the remote town of Nilore.
Founded in 1967 as Center for Nuclear Studies (CNS) in response to increasing industrialization of Pakistan, the institute started its educational activities with the support of Quaid-e-Azam University, and achieved its independence in 1970; the institute gained its university status in 1997. Students reside on grounds of the 150 acres (0.61 km2; 0.23 sq mi) campus while attending the university, which offers academic programs with a strong emphasis on scientific, engineering, and technological education and research.
