Promoting Science Education in Pakistan.....

NFC Institute of Engineering and Technological Training

National Fertilizer Corporation of Pakistan  is  one  of  the  largest  employers of qualified engineers particularly in the field of Chemical  Engineering.  In  order  to  meet the requirement of trained manpower for chemical process industry especially in the fertilizer sector, a Training Centre was established in 1985 with the technical assistance of M/s. COSMO International Co., Ltd., Japan.  The  Centre   trained   managers,   engineers,   supervisors,  operators/  technicians  through  multi-dimensional programs that vary widely in content and duration for all types of process and engineering industry.
To  further  diversify  the  activities  of  the  Centre  and  in  line with the education policy announced by the Government of Pakistan,  NFC  with  the  approval  of  Ministry  of  Industries & Production, Government of Pakistan upgraded the Centre in 1994  and started graduate engineering classes initially in Chemical Engineering discipline and changed its nomenclature as “NFC  Institute  of  Engineering  & Technological training”. This was also the need of the country and particularly of this area.
The   degree   programs   at  NFC  IET  are   affiliated   with   Bahauddin   Zakariya   University,   Multan.  Pakistan Engineering Council, the apex body to regulate Engineering education in the country has recognized and accredited “NFC Institute of Engineering  &  Technological  Training,  Multan  on  the  basis  of  its  facilities and high standards of Engineering Education.
The under-graduate engineering programme in NFC IET was introduced in 1994 when a batch of 40 students was admitted in chemical engineering discipline. Since then, IET never looked back and it grew wit each passing year. The number of students admitted to chemical engineering programme was gradually increased to 122 per batch in the year 2001, two new disciplines Electronic Engineering & computer Systems Engineering (E&CE) were added, so that, as of now, 242 students are admitted each year in the fields of Chemical Engineering, Electronic Engineering and Computer Systems Engineering. Over 750 engineering graduates have been passed and are well placed in some of the reputed organizations of the country. Others have opted for higher studies abroad. Recently, a four year B.S programme in Computer Science was introduced to cater for the arousing need of specialists in this basic and very essential science. A new engineering programme,  B.Sc Electrical Engineering (Power) is going to be start from this year.
The institute is spread over 40 acres of land. The main blocks include old & new Chemical Engineering blocks and Electronic & Computer Systems Engineering block. In addition, the institute has an Admin block, a Training block and a Central Wrokshop in the academic premises. These buildings, apart from the class rooms and labs, include two libraries one each for Chemical Engineering & Electronic & Computer Systems Engineering, a Seminar hall and a couple of committee rooms. The labs have the latest equipment including a DCS, PLC and a miniature plant. The hostels include a Boys and a Girls hostels having a capacity of 440 and 100 respectively.
The new EE and CSE building is equipped with latest laboratories and an on-line library. The first four batches of EE and CSE students have got excellent job placements.
The Institute  is located in close proximity to Pakarab Fertilizers Ltd., which is one of the biggest chemical process complex in the country,  and provides  a strong technical  backup  to t he Institute. The practical engineering education facilities which are  available in the Institute, such as Distributed Control System (DCS), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Miniature Plant  provide  added benefits to students in learning actual plant operation, process control and plant optimization. These facilities have no parallel in other engineering institutions/ universities of Pakistan.
Mid-Country   Oil   Refinery   is   a   newly   established   petrochemical complex by PARCO and is the biggest employer of IET graduates.   The   refinery   is   about   60   kilometers   from Multan and provides opportunity for Internships, student training, industrial tours and has proved a source of learning and technical collaboration for the IET students.

Chairman's Message
Education is like a continuous journey from the present to the future. It is a matter of great satisfaction and pride to know that the Institute of Engineering & Technological Training, Multan is to begin a new academic session-2010, thereby hitting a new milestone on its journey to the search for excellence. On this auspicious occasion, I extend my very warm welcome to the young men and women who are likely to gravitate to this great institute to realize their dreams and aspirations. IET Multan is a compact, purpose-built  campus housing all necessary infrastructure i.e State of the art facilities, well equipped labs and above all a very professional and devoted faculty who are making consistent endeavors to help the students in the acquisition of knowledge and skills.

Needless to say that the progress and prosperity of a nation is dependent on the quality of its years therefore, there lies a great deal of responsibility on the students of today. And they must devote their time and energies towards acquiring new knowledge and mastering new skills. As for the Management of IET, I assure the students community that they will find the environments at the Institute , very conducive and stimulating to intellectual growth and enquiry. I wish to see a very close bond between the faculty and students and hope that their stay at the campus will be very enjoyable and professionally rewarding.
